This photo was taken during the Army-Navy game on Nov. 24, 1911. The contest was held at Franklin Field on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania. The city hosted its first Army-Navy game 12 years earlier on the same field.

This week in Philly history: The first Army-Navy game is played in Philadelphia in 1899

On Dec. 2, 1899, Philadelphia hosted its first Army-Navy football game at Franklin Field on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania.

Accompanied by floats, clowns, uniformed bands, and marchers in costume, Santa Claus came back to Philadelphia on Nov. 22, 1945 in the annual Gimbel Brothers Thanksgiving Day parade. At the climx of the parade, Santa climbed a ladder to Gimbels toy department as thousands of spectators watched.
